NANOVERIFY AT 10: A DECADE OF TRUST

Malaysia’s nano-certification body sharpens regional edge with global firsts

Marking ‘A Decade of Trust,’ NanoVerify's 10th Anniversary celebration was graced by the Distinguished Guest of Honour, Professor Madya Ir. Dr. Ahmad Mukifza bin Harun, Director of the National Nanotechnology Centre (NNC), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI)

NanoVerify Sdn Bhd (NVSB) marked its 10th anniversary with a clear message to industry: rigorous verification fuels market trust and growth. This milestone event also served to strengthen its regional connections, showcasing an ongoing commitment to advancing nanotechnology in Southeast Asia.

At an anniversary luncheon in the city, NVSB honoured long-standing partners with certifications, recognising their continued support. The event was attended by partners from the ASEAN region, including the Business Association Of Overseas Vietnamese (BAOOV) and Nanotech Indonesia Global (NIG), showcasing a continuous collaboration with the region. Another strong partner, NANOTEC from Thailand, was unable to attend, as were clients with active certified Type-5 products from Vietnam.

The event saw attendance from various distinguished agencies, ministries and associations from the ecosystem, including The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN), Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (FOMCA), Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS), Halal Development Corporation (HDC), Halal International Selangor (HIS), Lembaga Getah Malaysia (LGM), Food Quality Research Unit (UNIPEQ) and Nanotechnology & Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, as well as STRIDE (Science & Technology Research Institute for Defence) from the Ministry of Defence.

Set up to put science behind ‘nano’ claims, NVSB has steadily extended its footprint, moving from basic validation to a full certification stack aligned with international standards. More than a year on from its March 2024 recognition, the company remains the world’s first and only ISO/IEC 17065 accredited certification body for nanotechnology product certification, cementing Malaysia’s position in the global standards conversation.

NVSB operates the NANOVerify Product Certification Scheme, a Type 5 programme under ISO/IEC 17067 that combines product sampling and testing with ongoing surveillance, offering a durable seal of performance rather than a one-off test. For MSMEs, the NANOTrust (Type 2) scheme provides an accessible entry point, while GRAPHENEVerify addresses the fast-growing graphene category.

“Today’s celebration is even more meaningful as it coincides Malaysia’s Merdeka season, a reminder of our great nation’s spirit of independence, progress, and resilience,” said En Johan Iskandar Hasan, Managing Director of NanoVerify Sdn Bhd.

“With perseverance and dedication, NanoVerify has indeed come a long way from our humble beginnings 10 years ago – a small but determined unit with a bold vision, starting with just two certifications in our first year of operations in 2015. Fast forward to 2025, NanoVerify has issued 280 certifications, cutting across various industry sectors such as cosmetics, lubricants, coatings, agriculture as well as F&B. I do believe NanoVerify and its ecosystem of partners have done well to instill trust in nanotechnology, whilst increasing the revenue generated from this technology sector.”

A decade of milestones underscores NVSB’s role in shaping market standards. In 2018, Malaysia and Taiwan launched a mutual nano-verification mark recognition programme, enabling certified products to enjoy equal recognition in both markets.

Industry observers say such initiatives reflect Malaysia’s wider ambition to lead in advanced materials and applied nanotechnology. By aligning certification with international norms, NVSB offers local manufacturers a practical pathway to compete on quality, from nutraceuticals and agri-inputs to coatings and consumer goods, while giving consumers a trusted benchmark for product performance.

Looking ahead, NVSB aims to turn its global accreditation into regional leadership, pushing for interoperable standards across ASEAN. Its stated goal is to make Malaysia the beacon of nano-verification, a hub where cutting-edge materials meet transparent, internationally recognised certification that buyers can trust.
